The University of Rhode Island Jazz Workshop

July 9th- Shawnn's Birthday!

The University of Rhode Island Preparatory Music Program is offering the fifth annual exciting, creative, educational, and inspiring Summer Intensive Jazz Week for students in grades 9-12 and adults. Younger students with experience may apply.

     Jam packed with Big Bands, theory and specialized classes, combos, Master classes, and concerts, students will learn in an intensive, noncompetitive setting taught by URI's award-winning jazz and percussion faculty led by Joe Parillo and Eric Hofbauer. Small class size enhances individual attention and focus on the student. 

   Classes will include theory, improvisation and ear training.  Master Classes in each instrument will be offered, featuring faculty artists Jared Sims, Dave Zinno, Steve Langone and Mark Berney.Faculty specializing in voice, piano, guitar, bass, brasses, winds and percussion/drum set will create a well-rounded instrumentation.  We are delighted to welcome jazz vocalist Shawnn Monteiro to our camp faculty for 2010.

Attendance/Group Meeting (Monday: Placement Auditions and Meeting Session)
9:45 - 11:00 am: Class Period I/Ensemble
11:00 am - 12:30 pm: Class Period II/Theory or Specialized Class, Combo
12:30 - 1:30 pm: Lunch: (not provided-available at Memorial Union Ram’s Den, Kingston Emporium, or bring your own)
1:30 - 3:00 pm: Class Period III/Ensemble
3:00 - 4:30 pm: Master Classes

Friday afternoon concert by all student ensembles.

Tuition for the week is $375 including a $25 application fee

NOVITÁ - Torino Youth Jazz Orchestra

Nell’ambito del progetto europeo di cooperazione transfrontaliera Alcotra “Musiche dal vivo nelle Alpi Latine” è stato avviato il progetto di creazione dell’orchestra jazz giovanile del Piemonte, la Torino Youth Jazz Orchestra, al fine di coinvolgere in un percorso finalizzato alla formazione professionale in campo jazzistico i giovani allievi delle diverse scuole e istituzioni musicali presenti sul territorio. Il progetto ha visto la creazione di una Big Band giovanile che, a seguito di un percorso formativo in due tranches di 10 lezioni, realizza spettacoli nei comuni italo-francesi coinvolti nel progetto di “Musiche dal Vivo nelle Alpi Latine”. Il Due Laghi Jazz Workshop quest’anno offre l’opportunità ai suoi allievi di scegliere, previa selezione di idoneità, tra i tradizionali corsi di musica d’insieme e il nuovo corso di Big Band, che sarà coordinato da Valerio Signetto. Lo stage ha la finalità di avviare un percorso introduttivo alla professione di musicista jazz.
